Exhibits and Events
“Handcrafted Wood Items & Woodworking Tools”
January 18 – March 10
The White-Pool House
contains several examples of fine wood craftsmanship including the door frames,
floors, and gingerbread carvings which decorate the outside of the house. Local
artisans will have a variety of wooden pieces such as lamps, bowls, and
numerous decorative items guaranteed to fascinate those who attend. Also
featured will be tools of the woodworker.
“Doll Houses & Doll House Furniture”
April 4 – June 9
Throughout generations,
doll houses have been popular toys and entertainment for children. They ranged
from simple wooden boxes to elaborate replicas of the family home or historical
sites. The museum will feature doll houses and furnishings from local collectors.
“Western Art & Artifacts”
June 20 – August 4
Art held a special place
in reflecting life in post civil-war Texas. The only way history was preserved
was by artists’ portraits and landscapes. A display of western art, by an area
artist, will be featured at the museum. In addition, western artifacts
including Native American pottery and arrowheads from the era will be exhibited.
“Period Costumes”
August 22 – October 27
The White-Pool House has a
rich history spanning parts of two centuries. Clothing from the late 1800’s and
early 1900’s will be showcased throughout the house. The apparel is from a
private collection belonging to an antique clothing expert, whose life-long
goal has been to preserve fashion.
“Antique Toys & Holiday Decorations”
November 21 – December 22
Before modern conveniences,
children woke up on Christmas morning to handmade toys, hard candy and fruit.
Early toys will be exhibited throughout the museum. Each room will feature
ornaments and decorations of the period.
